The Perthshire
Whisky Trail

Thoughts of Scotland inevitably include our national drink, whisky and whether you are a lover of the ‘usage beatha’ (the water of life) or simply want to experience something that is synonymous with Scotland, the Perthshire whisky trail is an excellent starting point.
As you get a taste for the Perthshire malts, you will also discover the stories behind the well known Dewar's, Grouse, Bell's and Edradour whiskies. The trail takes you to:

  • Crieff: The Famous Grouse Experience - formerly the Glenturret Distillery and Scotland’s oldest

  • Pitlochry: The Edradour Distillery – the smallest and The Blair Athol Distillery

  • Dalwhinnie: The Dalwhinnie Distillery – the highest above sea level

  • Aberfeldy: The Dewars or Aberfeldy Distillery – located where Perthshire's highest mountain, deepest loch, and longest glen meet, and is historically and geographically the 'Heart of Scotland’

The Famous Grouse Experience

If you like the idea of visiting a distillery but don’t feel the need to follow the whole trail, you are in just the right location for a tour of The Famous Grouse Experience. Formerly The Glenturret Distillery, it is Scotland’s oldest distillery.

Nowadays The Famous Grouse Experience at Glenturret is the most visited distillery in Scotland. A visit here will give you the opportunity to learn how single malt is made in the traditional way, and how Scotland’s Best Loved Whisky, the Famous Grouse, and its new range of blended malts are produced.

After your tour you can indulge in a visit to the ‘Famous Bar’ for a wee dram or a ‘Ginger Grouse’. and the best thing is you can include this in a scenic walk from the apartment.
